Launch of two new all-Ireland suites of local health inequalities indicators
Start: 12 Aug 2008 - 14:15
End: 12 Aug 2008 - 16:30
Health inequalities are unacceptable, starting early in life and persisting not only into old age but subsequent generations. They reflect a complex array of health, social economic, environmental, and resourcing factors. Local health inequalities indicators give a picture of the situation in an area and put it into context by supporting and facilitating geographical comparisons.
At this event we will preview two new all-Ireland suites of local health inequalities indicators. Both have been compiled for every local government district within Northern Ireland and every county within the Republic of Ireland. Both have been implemented on the Observatory’s website which includes online tools to explore them further.
As well as giving an overview of key findings, speakers will give demonstrations of the website tools.
iHPI – The Irish Health Poverty Index
An area’s “health poverty” is a combination of its present state of health and its future potential health.
Supported by funding from the Combat Poverty Agency, INIsPHO@IPH adapted the English Health Poverty Index to the island of Ireland. The Irish Health Poverty Index consists of 66 measures of health poverty covering a wide variety of factors that influence health.
AIHSC- All-Ireland Health and Social Care Indicators
The All-Ireland Health and Social Care Indicators (AIHSC) are based on the Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Inequalities Monitoring System which was originally only available in Northern Ireland.
This suite of indicators focuses on morbidity, service utilisation and access to health and social care services.
