Background
Ireland and Northern Ireland’s Population Health Observatory (INIsPHO) focusses on increasing awareness, access and use of health information and intelligence available on the island and elsewhere. The INIsPHO eData website is an important vehicle for achieving this.

Aim
The INIsPHO eData website is designed to meet a wide variety of user needs by providing web-access to aggregated data and the tools to analyse it.

There are two main parts to the website: the tables and the datasets. Tables contain pre-calculated indicators where users can select particular population attributes and indicators and results are presented in a variety of formats including spreadsheet, a graph or a map.

Datasets are more flexible, whereby users can create their own population subgroups by selecting their own combinations of attributes. Users can define what indicators they want and calculate these for their chosen population subgroups. Users can also work with more than one dataset at a time.

Progress report (updated February 2008)
Current tables on the INIsPHO eData website include:

  • all-Ireland diabetes estimates and forecasts;
  • Department of Health and Children (DOHC) Public Health Information System (PHIS CD);
  • Northern Ireland  Directors of Public Health core tables;
  • data from the cancer registries of both Ireland and Northern Ireland;
  • census 2006 data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO);
  • population estimates and projections from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA);
  • all-Island tables based on Northern Ireland’s Health and Social Care Inequalities Monitoring system.
